Named Funds

These funds offer lasting support to Shawnee State students, faculty, departments and programs. We thank those who established the following funds and all who continue to support them.

Named Endowed Non-Scholarship Funds

Reece Brown Track & Field Fund

Established by SSU alum and former SSU cross country runner, Reece Brown, to help SSU compete in track and field and cross country.

Clyde and Maycel Clark Endowment Funds

Two endowment funds have been established by Maycel Clark who was dedicated to the community. The Clark Memorial Library and the Clark Planetarium were named through her philanthropy to SSU.

Dr. William E. Daehler Tennis Fund

Established by Dr. William E. Daehler to assist with SSU’s Athletics Expansion Plan to create a men’s tennis program. The Dr. William E. Daehler Tennis Center is named his generosity.

Jane M.G. Foster Distinguished Lecture Series Fund

Established by Jane M. G. Foster, one of only two women to graduate Cornell University in 1918, to support and promote appearances of lecturers distinguished in their academic fields.

Gault Endowed Chair Fund

Established by Ross Gault in memory of Dr. Ross Moore and Mary Thomson Gault to encourage excellence in teaching in a health field.

Betty & Jim Hodgden Travel Fund

Established through the estate of Professor Emeritus Betty Hodgden for the English and Humanities Department for travel funds used by professors and students to expand educational opportunities.   

Edmund J. Kricker Lecture Series Fund

Established through the Scioto Foundation to sponsor lectures and performances in classical music, performing arts, and business management field.  

Bernard & Doris Levi Kidship Endowment

Created by Bernard and Doris Levi to assist with the costs for students attending the Genevieve and Miller Toombs Children’s Learning Center.

Judge John B. & Beverly T. Marshall Fund

Established by John, retired Judge of Scioto County Common Pleas Court, and his wife, Beverly, during the Poised for Tomorrow Campaign.

Mathuews Library Fund

Created by Katy Mathuews, SSU alum, for Clark Memorial Library staff professional development and student library technology.

Dr. Spencer & Helen Miller Endowment 

Created by retired radiologist, Dr. Spencer Miller, for replacement or repair of equipment in the Miller Radiology Laboratory and for sponsorship of classical instrumental music concerts in the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.

NEA Kidship Endowment

Created by the National Education Association, the endowment helps to underwrite the cost of tuition for children of SSU faculty members to the Genevieve and Miller Toombs Children’s Learning Center.

William J. & Patricia J. Richards Lecture Series Fund

Created by William J. and Patricia J. Richards to help SSU to continue to offer quality education in the physical therapy and occupational therapy fields through workshops and guest speakers.  

Janet & Homer Selby Fund

Created by bequest from Mrs. Selby to defray facilities use fees for non-profit groups who use SSU facilities for events that are open to the public.

Janet Selby Library Fund

Established by Janet Selby, former member of SSU Development Foundation. The Selby Board Room Suite in the Clark Memorial Library and the Selby Grand Lobby in the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts were named for her generosity. 

Edith Swinton Schirrman Travel Fund

Created by bequest of Harry A. Schirrman, Jr. in memory of his mother, is used for SSU student travel to conferences, events, and presentations.

Ralph & Julia Wisniewski Botany Fund 

Established by Ralph and Julia Wisniewski to assist with programming expenses and faculty needs for the Waller Greenhouse and to further the study of botany at SSU.

 

Named Annual Funds

Barnes & Noble Bookstore Fund

Created by Barnes and Noble Campus Bookstore during the Poised for Tomorrow Campaign for design and construction of the new bookstore on campus.

Brown Geology Travel Fund

Established by Reece Brown, SSU alum and former cross country runner, to support experiential learning and field study for geology students.    

Miss Hetty CLC Professional Development Fund

Established in honor of Hetty Phillips, teacher at the Dr. Miller & Genevieve Toombs Children’s Learning Center, to provide professional development opportunities for practicing and pre-service CLC staff.

Steven A. Hunter Appalachian Project Fund

Established by Mark and Virgie Hunter to preserve and honor the memory of their son, Steven. The fund supports student activities, such as field trips, recording and music projects, and lecture series. 

Khoury BSN Lab Fund

Established by SOMC physician Dr. Thomas Khoury and nurse Cheryl Khoury, SSU alum, to enhance the SSU Nursing Department through funding of nursing labs, facilities, equipment and programming.  

Michael Powell Fund

Established in memory of SSU English and Humanities faculty member and Dept. Chair, Dr. Michael Powell, by his wife, Sherri, alongside colleagues and friends.

Eloise C. & Vernon Smith Fund

Created by bequest of Eloise C. Smith, graduate of Portsmouth High School who strongly believed in education and former teacher at New Boston and Wheelersburg.   

SunCoke Energy Haverhill Field Experience Fund

Established by SunCoke Energy Haverhill to be used to support internship field experience.

Leslie Williams Lecture Series Fund

Established to honor Dr. Leslie Williams, SSU faculty member and chairperson of the Arts and Humanities Department, by her husband, William, along with colleagues and friends.
